Deleteing AOL IM

I have two computers hooked up to the same cable with a router to direct traffic. I have E-Mail moving correctly which can be read by both computers, but I dont want to be bothered by AOL instant messages on one of them. I have deleted the program in every way I know of, but I continue to get an AOL IM window at start up, and I still the icon on the lower toolbar. There must be a cookie somewhere to get AOL off this computer but I don't know how to do it. Ideas? The computer I want to clean is operating on Windows 98 and uses version 5 of Internet Explorer. Thanks in advance!

AOL IM can exist as a standalone program. I have it on my Linux computer. It must launch in the start up stage. Click on Start, Run, type Msconfig, go the start up tab and click on it. Look down the list for AOL IM or something like that and uncheck it. This should prevent it from starting. To the right of this will be the path to the program. You can follow this path to the executable and uninstall it. IM is also included in Netscape Navigator, if you happen to have that.

Hope this helps.

Deleteing Im

I saw the IM thing in Netscape when I was prowling around the first time. If someone is trying to Im me on AOL, will it still breaK in with netscape, and if so, do I have to disable that too?

You would need to start the IM in Netscape for it to be running. You could set it to start automatically, when Netscape starts or not. Unless you start it, no one will see a connection to you.

Another alternative to msconfig...

When Aol IM window is open, go into the "My Aim" menu.
Down to "Edit Options"
Over to "Edit Preferences"
Click on the "Sign On/Off" tab at the left
Uncheck "Start AIM when Windows starts"
Click 'OK' and exit

AIM shouldn't start up anymore when you start your pc.

Given I hate AOL, I stay well clear of Netscape and the like...\
I have tried the various Netscapes though, for curiosity.
The Older versions of Netscape install AIM as a independant Program, however not a removable component. ("forced AIM")
The newer Netscapes have AIM bonded into the browser more, as I recall.
The best solution I can find is use Mozillla. Netcsape is Mozilla underneath, without the EVIL AOL crap on top!
Glad you solved the problem.

AIM

I dont really have a problem using AOL, but I dont want it on both computers. How did you get the "Green Jacket" handle? A company I represent, gives away a few each year as sales awards, I wondered if you got it from something like that?

It just happened to be a spur of the moment idea, it represents Kermit the Frog, from the Muppetts!

One of my online Alias s

In your terms, the company gives away Green jackets for people to wear?
Perhaps jackets made of GREEN 20 DOLLAR BILLS!!!
