Every computer needs a modem
So If a person is going to have several computers in a home and doesn't want to router them up..Then every computer must have each there own modem right.

If you want to get on the internet with them, then why not network? Dial-up is just too slow (especially if you're used to broadband.)
If it's just a matter of running the wires, there's always the wireless option - it's much better than 56K.
