Angry Compaq Presaio

Problem---After using for a period of time, the computer just freezes up and will not respond at all. I have tried taking everything back to original config.(operating system)(even changing the operating system). Still the same problem! Any suggestions?

Was Windows ME-- Now Win 98 Sec Edition
Tried a different hard drive and have removed and swapped memory RAM chips. Still freezes up after using for a period of time(no set period of time).

Check for and remove all spyware from the system.

What method have you used to "take it back to the original configuration"? What operating system (windows)?
If it is a hardware problem, it is likely to be a faulty component causing a fault during normal operation.
Other possibilities: A bad stick of memory (RAM), or a hard drive with one or more bad sectors. Chances are this has something to do with a software corruption/incompatibility.
Give us some more info. about what it does, when does it happen/what initiates a freeze or significant slow down?

I would suspect some bad RAM. Software will very rarely cause this symptom, it is usually hardware.

could also be a heat problem. Have you checked the fan in the power supply or on the chip, possibly one on the video card?
