Question Can't delete folder

I have a folder with a folder in it. I try to delete the two folders but cannot. I get this error message "Cannot delete ASLCOU~1.htm: Cannot find specified file" I have searched on google for this file to no avail. When I open either set of folders I can't see any files. But when I right click and select properties it says there is 1912 files with 91 folders and it takes up 54mb. While in the properties section the "hidden" button" is unchecked but the "read-only" button is checked. I uncheck the button but it comes right back. I don't believe I have any programs that are trying to pull files from these folders. How these folders came about was, I was working on a computer and I needed to re-install the whole computer so I networked them together so I could pull the important files onto my computer. I got some of the files that were there to leave but know can't figure out what the problem is.

What operating system?

Make sure you have sufficient privileges to delete the folder and its files.

The file may be corrupted. In other words, it might exist be be inaccessible.

ASLCOU~1.htm
What is the real name of the file, not just the 8.3 name?

If you open the file, what do you see?

Have you tried restarting the computer? Sometimes files get locked-out by the system until the next restart.

It sounds like it may also be the System Recovery folder - if that's the case, you'll have to disable system recovery, restart, and re-enable recovery to remove the folder.

Good luck!

I am the only one on the computer with administrator access. I have been trying to delete these folders for weeks.

There are no files to open. Just two folders.

Look at the path to the file/folder/directory and see where it is. If it is in the system recovery folder, then....

It is located C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents

When I open the folder there is nothing there. When I do a search on Drive C, It does not find ASLCOU~1.htm.

When do you see it? Only in DOS? I say DOS because you refer to it by the 8.3 naming convention.

Can you move it to another folder?
Can you rename it?
Have you deleted your cache,etc?

can't delete folder

It is possible that you have a damaged FAT causing files that are really there to be impossible to delete. Have you tried running the built in disk scan utiltiy? I would scan the entire hard drive and see if any errors are found.

Have you tried drag and drop to recycle bin? I had similiar problem recently on a customers machine and was able to drag folder to recycle bin. Then had to go to DOS and clean out recycle bin.

If you can get it to recyle bin, most likely when you try to empty it you will get a similiar error message, If that happens, post a reply and I can talk you through process in DOS.
