Heavy Breathing

You all deserve to bust a gut at this one, but I have two sound pop ups that like to start hassling me when I light up Internet Explorer. One of them is an Ad for Matrix the movie (a sound only clip) and the latest one is just the sound of someone breathing heavily. (and no, I dont visit porno sites) How does one prevent and get rid of this irritation?

I quit using Internet Explorer because of these types of irritations. I now use Mozzila Firebird as my browser.

You could try running ad aware or spybot. Both are free to download.

If you like IE, but don't want the pop-ups, then try SlimBrowser from FlashPeak.com.
It uses the IE engine, so it's very similar as far as looks, feel, and operation - but it adds a pop-up blocker, tabbed windows, and a few other cool features that you won't find in IE.

Plus, it's free.

I've had it for almost a year now, and I love it - it's very good for browsing multiple sites, since you don't have to open multiple browsers to do so; and, with the pop-up blocker, I hardly ever receive pop-ups (I think the only one I ever get is from DIY.com - the Reader's pop-up.)

Give it a try. Good luck!

start>control panel>Sounds and then find the appropriate action that has a sound, in this case it will be called Internet Explorer, and there should be a speaker icon next to open program and use the scroll list to select none for no sound or another sound. that's in XP anyway, except I do not have an IE option for sounds, huh, your results may vary.

I just downloaded a new IE wrapper today, very similar to SlimBrowser - it's called MyIE2. Works essentially just like Slim, even looks the same, but some have said it's better.
