bios question

I have an Aptiva amd k6-2 500. I went to the ibm web site yesterday and noticed that there is a bios upgrade for my computer. My question is this. Is it really necessary to do this? What will it do for my computer?

It may add some functionality. It also may not be needed. You apparently aren't experiencing any problems with a machine that old, or you would have been looking for some solution.

Some changes provide support for newer equipment that has come out since the bios was programmed.

If you have never flashed a BIOS, this could be an opportunity to try it. On the other hand, it is possible for a BIOS flash to fail, leaving you with a paperweight. Not that failure is so common.

My tendency is to leave well enough alone on a production machine, unless you are solving a problem.

Hope this helps.
