Unhappy external harddrive/ drive root changed problem

Anyone know what might be the solution to this. I have an external 80 gig harddrive connected to a USB port. It has always worked fine rooted to my H drive. Now after starting puter i am missing the H drive. Something keeps changing my root to the (I) drive . Now my icons won't open because H drive is missing ! Anyone know what might be happening here. appreciate any info.

thanks

Raven

What operating system? Computer configuration? Current virus program?

Icons won't open. What icons? What are they shortcuts for?

Anything else new or different?

You really should never install applications on an external hard drive, Windows will randomly "change" drive letters. In XP you can go and change it I believe.

If you added an internal hard drive/CD ROM or you added another partition the external letter designation will change.
