What is GDI.EXE?

Hi All,
Have a computer running win98. Did a windows critical update. After restarting the computer, I found that when running AOL or Word, that I get a general protection fault in module GDI.EXE. The program then closes. What the heck is that, and how to fix?
Thanks much,
Andy

Unfortunately, none of the links on that page address this issue - some of them are helpful, though. The general idea of the error is that there is a corrupted file.

I would try a couple of things:
1) Try running Scandisk from Safe Mode to see if that will fix the file
2) Uninstall and reinstall the update - it may be that one of the files did not get installed properly
3) You could try reinstalling AOL - it may have the correct version of the file

Good luck!

Thanks, guys!
I'll try your suggestions this evening after the Packer game. I want to install a newer version of AOL anyway.
