System Configuration Utility

System Configuration Utility
I downloaded and used the MSCONFIG utility that is missing from Windows/2000 so that I could block some sypware processes from starting. I modified the startup settings. Now when I start my computer, I get the following message:
"You have used the System Configuration Utility to make changes to the way Windows starts.
"The System Configfuration Utlilty is currently in Diagnostic or Selective Startup mode, causing this message to be displayed and the utility to run every time you Windows starts.
"Chose the Normal Startup mode on the General tab to start Windows normally and undo the changes you made using the System Configuration Utility."
Then there is a box for me to chack that says "Don't show this message again or launch the SCU when Windows starts."
Anyone have any idea what this is all about and what I do?
Thanks,
Chris

It is just letting you know that you had made some changes. If you can see what spyware is starting there, then you can hunt it down and delete it, then you wouldn't have to use msconfig to stop it.

As usual, the advice here is great.
About the sypware, some of it is really malicious. One I deleted and it kept comming back. I found parts of it stuck in a two-year-old PowerPoint file, an even older Word file, and two other such files. Then I decided to use MSCONFIG and just stop it from executing. Seems to work like a charm. It still may be there somewhere, but I don't care.
Thanks again for your help.
