memory

I bought a new memory card(dimm?) for my Compaq(64 meg ram, 15gig hard drive, 633mhz processor, windows ME) the card was 512mb installed and its not reading on my computer. I tried another card(64mb) and that will read. How can I fix this or did I spend $100 for nothing. Thanks guys and girls for any help.

The memory card must not be compatible with the motherboard. Return it.

Be sure to check the specifics on the motherboard so that you get the proper memory. Some motherboards are quite specific in what memory will work and what won't. Be sure and check that the bios and board will support that much memory. A quick visit to a memory configuration site such as www.crucial.com will walk you through the selection process.

Hope this helps.
