Microsoft wants you to use Media Player.
Real Networks wants you to use Real Player.
There are other players out there that also want to be used.
In some cases, software will be written in such a way that it will automatically assign it self as the default program for certain types of files. Sometimes you can turn this feature off, but sometimes you can't. Look for choices in the preferences or options section of the menu.
You can always stop using certain software, and then manually reassign the file types to default to using another package.
You can also directly open the player you want, nd then use the player to openthe file to be played or viewed.
