Provide more details.

Is either computer on the Internet? How?

Do you have any existing network equipment?

What kind of computers?

You could use a router or a hub and two network interface cards connected with Cat5 cabling. You could use a crossover cable and two network interface cards. You could use direct cable connection (Windows only.) You could use phone line networking. Wireless comes to mind.

What operating systems are you using on these two computers? Vintage of computers? Is the internet involved anywhere? If so, what type of connection? Dial up, cable, dsl, satellite?

Can Quickbooks running on two computers share a database on only one computer? How do you back up your office files each day?

Yeah, you should be able to have both set to the same workgroup using a xover cable or switch and be able to share a folder with the file you need.
