Problems with high speed "speed"

I am using DSL internet with a 2Wire Modem. My computer has been upgraded from Win 98 to XP. I was doing fine on DSL for about a month and then my computer started shutting down and running very, very slowly (as slow as dial up) on the internet only.

After reporting a few errors to Microsoft, I got a notice from SBC that they thought I had the Blaster Worm. Though I thought I had a current, active Anti-virus program, all I had was Zone Alarm firewall.

Per a phone conversation with a technician at Microsoft, we removed the worm, scanned the computer, and downloaded everything (I already had) that was current for my computer, in the way of patches.

My problem: My computer is still sluggish on DSL. Is there a possibility that my 2Wire might not be working correctly? Like I said, I had no problems with DSL for the first two months.

I trust that you got an anti-virus program as well.

Spyware can certainly slow down a computer.

Yes, I downloaded AVG 6.0 before I even contacted Microsoft.

I do have Spybot S & D but I am not very timely in scanning with it. Can I somehow set this up to scan daily or do I need to go in and do that myself?
