Mac Classic II

I need a Mac expert here who has delt with all the Mac Classics to answer this question. I have just recently gotten hold of a Mac Classic II computer. Someone was giving it away to be recycled. The problem is that over a course of minutes the screen gets dimmer and dimmer untill it goes black. There is a brightness knob on the back of the computer to adjust it. All I really have to do is slightly turn it and the screen is bright again. Then over course of minutes it gets dim untill black just like before. What is causing this? Is the screen just going out, or is it a mattor of the logic board or something. Like, needs a new batter, new ram, or something other? I was also thingking about the ram doubler. Normally these Macs have no such software installed on it. But this one that I aquired has a Ram doubler program or extension, or whatever it is. And am wondering if this could also be the culprit? In any rate there must be a explanation for this problem!

You don't need to be a Mac "expert" to identify a bad or going bad monitor. Dimming and constant adjustments resulting in dimming again is a sure sign that the unit is setting up for a major failure.
