It's called delete. Go through your hard rrive and delete unused files. Archive off files to CD Roms or other mass storage devices.

since you are in safemode, go ahead and run the cleanup wizard and then run defragmenter. Then, yes, you might need to copy/burn off and or delete any files or programs you don't use. You can disable this warning with a registry hack or with TweakUI from the XP Powertools.
From Microsoft:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];285107
When free disk space reaches 200 megabytes (MB), you receive the following
message for 10 seconds, once per session:

You are running out of disk space on [drive]. To free space on this drive by
deleting old or unnecessary files, click here.

When free disk space reaches 80 MB, you receive the following message for 30
seconds, every four hours, twice per session:

You are running very low on disk space on [drive]. To free space on this
drive by deleting old or unnecessary files, click here.

When free disk reaches 50 MB, you receive the following message for 30 seconds,
every five minutes, until free space is above 50 MB:

You are running very low on disk space on [drive]. To free space on this
drive by deleting old or unnecessary files, click here.

Another point to make here, is make sure he or she knows how to uninstall programs instead of deleting icons or deleting the programs from the hard drive. Those ways are the impropper way to remove programs or games. Eventually everybody will fill up 40gig on there HD. All you have to do is uninstall them. I believe XP also has a ADD AND REMOVE PROGRAMS?

All current versions of Windows have an Add/Remove programs window.
