Since I haven't been running Windows long, if I visit MS Update then I'm okay on this patch, correct?

I know when I first installed XP it said that it needed to check for patches/updates but didn't go to the regular windows update looking site. I've been to the regular site and downloaded every patch upgrade deal they had for my system.

I'm nervous about running Windows again, but I do have my firewall up, I think I've configured this thing correctly, and my AVP running (Norton at the moment).

Please keep us updated! Linux sites will send email notification that I need to do a security update, but windows doesn't do that do they?

Thanks!

Kay

With windows you can have it search for updates automatically, and either download them or notify you.

Click Start, Settings, and Control Panel.
Open System
Click the "Automatic Updates" tab.
Check the option for "Keep my computer up to date."
Select one of the three settings on how you wish to be notified for updates. Recommend you select the second option "Download the updates automatically and notify me when they are ready to be installed".
Click Apply and Ok.

Windows XP

I have "Automatic Updates" as you described. Do I still need to manually do the 'patch-thing'? If so, is this where I'm supposed to go?

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

I clicked on the 'searches' that are on FoxNews, but it's not clear to me what I should do, if anything.

Thank you for your help.

Thank you for the url. I had been there and done that twice already in the past week and again just now. It looks like its all taken care of for now.

The thing that confused me was that there wasn't anything in the update info that used the word "patch", so I wasn't sure if was covered or not.
