photo hosting sites..what gives?

What gives with these photo hosting sites one minute there up and running and another minute there down,,too much traffic or what? When web sites[some] are encouraging people to upload photos to a photo hosting site so they can participate on
various forums and such..!Web sites like photo hosting sites cause they do not need to store anything on there server?
You see what I mean...but I wonder now what the best route Is to go perhaps people need to re think this?cause It's serious
If the free photo hosting site is down all the time..what to do?
They like got all my pictures eh? not funny

You also have to watch which photo site you use. Take Fotki.com for instance, they are useless to store photos that you want to link to in forums like this one because they actually change the links to your photos on a regular basis, so one day your photo is here, the next it's not.

Like whats the point If the pic isn't going to be there?
Kinda makes the various forums look bad also?

You usually get what you pay for.

I think most image hosting sites limit the amount of bandwith you can use on a free account. Every time an image is viewed it uses some bandwidth. When the limit is reached, the link to images in that account gets blocked one way or another. This is because they have to pay their ISP for bandwidth used.

Perhaps they provide a free account in the hope that in the end people will be willing to pay for a bandwidth upgrade. Maybe that's how they actually make some money from providing the service. They have to do that one way or another I suppose.

I think Tae said it best.

If you want a reliable (or mostly so) service, get your own domain name and webspace and setup your own service, site, or whatever you want.

How do these Photosites differ from WebShots? Is it like a free version of Data storage in the SKY? Only you store Pics there instead?

I'm only intrested, due to a longtime involvement in the Free Webshots. I use them to share Pics with Family only. I keep web Pics on ZIPs or DVDs.

So is WebShots in the same class or a whole different thing?

Lightbulb

c'mon folks...I'm always amazed to see people using free sites to post their pics or websites, then complain when they don't work. What can you be thinking? But then again, there's all those AOLers PAYING to be bombarded with ads and happy as pigs in slop...I donno....
