restrict access

My 8 year old is becoming familiar with the internet. He is only allowed on certain kids web sites when we take him there. He understands that he can just click on IE and be on the web. How can I create a password to ge to the net. We always watch him when he's online, but I know the temptation will be their to explore if he gets the chance.

The easiest thing to do is delete the internet explorer icon off the desktop and instead access the internet via the internet explorer icon in the start menu under programs section.

 

You didn't mention what operating system or version of internet explorer you were using, but here are some options.

1. A program called "winlock", can be found here:

2. You can password protect the screensaver and BIOS bootup.

3. Go to the Tools page on the IE tool bar. Then go to the Content tab. Inable content advisor and then setup a pass word. When you click on content advisor it will come up with another page of selections. Go to the general tab. Click on supervisor password. Put a password in there. You will not get onto the internet without a password now.This should stop all use of internet explorer unless you give them the pass word.
Now be warned if this password gets corrupted, it's a bear to find. MS data base does not list where it is or how to remove a corrupted password, but here does:

4. Setup your account as power user instead of administrator and password protect the I.E. program.

5. Password protect the sign on.
