WinAmp is perfectly legal - it's simply a media player, much like the Windows Media Player. Personally, I like it, I've used it for years.

It has nothing to do with downloading illegal software or music - it does not share or download any software (other than updates, etc.)

Technically, you can't get into legal trouble for downloading - only uploading and sharing copyright files. However, that's slowly changing.

WinMX is different. THAT is a P2P file sharing program. There's nothing wrong with those, per se, but they are the main methods of downloading those illegal files you mentioned. Winamp is nothing more than a player, perfectly legal. WinMX is a SHARING program which is also legal, but can be used to obtain illegal files.

In your opinion, which is easier or safer to use? Morpheus or WINMX? How can you tell which is a safe song to load or one that's a illegal one

You really want to know? Neither. ALL P2P programs right now (in the midst of the RIAA's lawsuits) are bad news. Don't use them. Period.

Well, simply put, ALL songs that are copyrighted would technically be illegal if downloaded. Since 99.9% of the music on these P2P programs are copyrighted, well, there you go...

The bottom line is this. Sharing music now is a very risky business. I used to do it, but have since stopped. The RIAA is making everyone's life miserable. People could rant forever about this topic, but suffice it to say that as of now, filesharing via P2P is essentially a dead business.

Sorry,

Chris
