WinXP Networking

I have WinXP Pro. I enabled sharing of the C drive on the server computer. So I can access the server computer through the client computer but I can not get access to Program Files, Windows, or documents folder because it says that I do not have permision or administrative privliges. I foud out that the only way that I can access administrator is buy going into safe mode, then admin shows up in the logon screen, but does not in normal mode. What do I do guys. Thanks...

Are you trying to mount the drive on the server as a local drive or in my network places?

I am accessing server computer through network places yes. Just to be able to access all the areas of the C:/ drive on the server computer. Both the server computer and the cliant computer has WinXP Pro. I want to be able to access all files and folders on the server computer via the cliant computer. When I used to have win200 I could do this no problem. Now I have WinXP its a problem because I can access the all areas of that drive. What do I do?

from microsoft help and support center:
The Sharing option is not available for the Documents and Settings, Program Files, and WINDOWS system folders. In addition, you cannot share folders in other user's profiles.

Thanks for that info. Is there a way that I can enable the admin login to show up in normal boot mode, instead only being able to access admin through safe mode?

1. At the comand prompt, type lusrmgr.msc to open Local Users And Groups
2. In the console tree, click Groups
3. Double-click the Administrators group and remove all accounts except Administrator
4. Open the Users or Power Users groups and then click Add to each of the accounts you removed.

This will only work for XP Professional.

Bear in mind that I have NOT tried this, but I read it in an XP book, so I assume it works.

HTH, Terminator!

You could access the folders in my network places through an FTP addressing scheme such as ftp://[email protected] for the user named user in an account on the machine at 192.168.1.103

Hope this helps.

Not my book, and I don't remember what book it was, unfortunately. I just wrote that down from the book and that's why I had it. Just dug it out of my ole XP tweaking guide I've compiled from various sources...

Another way to do the exact same thing is HERE. Found that from Google.

"Window XP Inside Out" from Microsoft. Good buy for $45.00. Not exactly light reading.

Yeah, I think that's the one (but it's been a while). Here it is at Amazon.
