Question Internet connection problems in XP.

Hi,

I am trying to get a friend connected back to the Internet.

I just wanted to know if anybody was familiar with the following error message.

A box pops up prompting you to "Lift your handset and dial your operator, replace handset and click OK." She fears the kids or babysitter were playing around with her settings and changed things.

To be honest I have little experiance of XP and went through anything I could. The modem seems fine and no conflicts in Device Manager.

Thanks guys and gals.

The computer is infected with one of the many infections. Clean the computer and the problem will go away.

That definitely sounds like a virus which is determined to make a person look stupid. I've never heard of that message, but my guess is that a quick sweep with an updated AV program will cure all your ills. Please let us know, I'd be interested!
