Format C-drive

From an A: prompt off of a boot disk, type
/u means unconditional, meaning it formats the cucca out of it, and /s writes basic system files to the C: drive from the boot floppy. You can remove the "/u /s" if you like.
There's nothing more to it than that.

How you format a hard drive depends on which OS your using and what file system (fat, fat32, ntfs) your using. If you could provide this info it would help. The previous reply will work for pretty much anything but ntfs if your using 2k or XP.

Okay, can someone help me with this...I tried 2 ways of doing this, I have windows XP running, and i've tried using the CD going into the install and deleting the partion, and it says ''cannot delete some temporary setup files that are needed are in this partion"...
Then I try to go into the recovery console as another website would suggest, and type "format c: /fs:ntfs" exactly as the website has, and it says..."are you sure?" etc...I put yes, and it goes blank, then shows all my files still there...didn't delete anything.
Anyone know what the heck is going on? how can I reformat, and delete everything =/

What I would do is a clean install if you are installing Windows XP and formatting your whole hard drive. I am assuming you only have ONE hard drive installed os here goes!
Get a hold of an old Windows 98 / ME boot disk. If you cannot get one, you will be able to download it here http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm.
Boot with the floopy and type in "fdisk"
Delete your "primary partition" then, after that, create a new partition. If it asks you for a volume label just hit enter for noe and let it verify drive integrity and al that...
After everything there is done, it will restart. After that ,take out the floppy and insert your WIN XP CD and it will install a fresh copy on a properly formatted hard drive.
I've always done it this way and have a lot of success with it!
Good luck

That's a rather long way of doing it, the easiest way is to boot from the XP cd, follow the setup prompts, and format the partition when it gives you the option, no need for fdisk any longer when running an Win2k or XP system.
Also you CANNOT format from the recovery console, that's not what it's for, it's there to repair an installation that's not working.
