Scripting languages for PC?

Worldbuilder, is there a script language for the pc. I world like something like PEAL that you can do a system process and examine the return code to see what has happened and then direct if to approximate process.

A retired Unix system programmer and administer.

PEAL? You mean Perl? I assume so.

Well, to my knowledge Perl can be used on Windows systems to automate and write scripts in the same manner you can on a *nix system. However, since I've never actually used PERL on a Windows system, I can't be sure.

I have HEARD about WinBatch (http://www.winbatch.com/winbatch.html) which is used in a similar manner, but again, I've no experience with it personally.

HTH,

Chris

more thoughts

As far as being able to examine return code, I don't think there is any way to see that on a Windows system. MS lets no one look at their code or modify it, so I don't think there's any way to view it through a script you could write (unless you were to "hack" the Windows OS).

I have no idea how to do that, however, but I would imagine you would have to know assembly languages. Out of my league. I'm not a software (code) guy.
