Fedora

Anyone know the Hardware Requirements for Running Red Hat's Fedora? I'm thinking of putting it on my Laptop because Windows 98 is torquing me off. Also if you know a good link to download it from, I'd appreciate that. I googled it and recieved so many hits, my head hurts now. Still, the point is that I've had a hard time finding the system requirements, so if anyone knows them, please give me a shout.

Thanks,
me

Redhat says at: http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/release-notes/

Pentium grade processor => AMD K6, >200 mhz for text, >400 mhz for graphical; minimal installation 620 Mb disk, desktop 2.3 GB, everything 6.9 GB after installation. It takes more for the actual installation.

Minimum RAM 64 MB for text, 192 for graphical, 256 recommended for graphical.

Keep in mind that a minimal installation can be pretty ugly. I have seen Windows XP running on a K6-2 with 64 MB RAM, but it was ugly.

I would recommend at least a AMD K7 or PIII and 512 MB RAM with 10 GB HD.

If you want to download it, I recommend the use of BitTorrent as a fast file manager.

Here is a source of the ISOs: http://fedora.redhat.com/download/

You can buy the CDs from place such as: Cheapbytes http://cart.cheapbytes.com/cgi-bin/c...ml?id=IKEqArup

You can install it over the internet, too.

Before you start, check to make sure your laptop modem, sound card, and video card are supported: http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/hardware.php3

All in all, I would recommend Mandrake-Linux 10.0 for new users.

Hope this helps.
