Internet Explorer Lockup

For about two months I have a problem with Internet Explorer locking up. I can't do anything except go to the Start menu and open a new Internet Explorer screen. The locked up screen stays on the status bar and when I try to turn of the computer there is a notice telling me there is a program running on my computer but it is not responding. I can clip a END NOW button and the computer will go off.
I have installed SP-2 and all the other security updates from MS but nothing has changed.
Any ideas what the problem my be?

Internet Explorer Issues

Need to know what version of IE your running. Many times, the computer can become infect with Spyware which can cause issues with your browser, the best way to detect this is to download an application to detect and clean spyware of the machine. The URL is a link to a "free" popular spyware cleaning utility, I would suggest downloading and running the tool, remediating anything it finds and see if this works. You may have to use a friends computer to do the download, copy to CD and install, if you can't get to the web to download it directly on that device.

Your right I should of given you more info.
I am on Windows XP Home Ed. with Internet Explorer 6.0.2900 w/xpsp 2.
I took most of a day downloading Service Pack 2. It is suppost to have all kinds of security programs and every time I turn on the computer it wants me to download more security software.
I am kind of hesitant about downloading third party software. Have you had any experience with these spy ware programs.

Have I had experience with them? Yes, Adaware. They are great programs that everyone should use.
