Netsky Infected, cleaned, but still bugged

Original problem=internet browser became so slow that it was unbearable to use. Friend used Spybot to identify that I did indeed have a virus. I used the most recent McAfee to find the infected files and delete them. There were over 11,000 files identified. Most of them were labeled Brittany Spears, Eminem, Harry Potter all ending with the word Netsky. Installed the McAfee Spamkiller, Firewall, and anti-virus. Was hoping this was the answer to my problems. However, I am still bugged because even though I can connect with my server, I can't get off the server homepage. When I try to go to other links it goes to the page that says THIS PAGE CANNOT BE DIPLAYED. I can get to my email through OUTLOOK EXPRESS, and I can get to my bank website, but I cannot go anywhere else. I have tried disabling the firewall. and everything else. I have tried going to the default settings. I have tried redoing the internet connection wizard. I tried looking for answers in a search and it mentioned something about WINSOC. Could the problem be there? My server is NETZERO. My computer is a Dell laptop INSPIRON 1100. thanks for your help.

Here's the netsky removal tools:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com...oval.tool.html
Go here to download hijack this and cwshredder.
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html
run the netsky remover, then cwshredder. If you still have problems, run hijack this, and post a log here.

I won't have time to follow your directions for a day or two, but in the meantime want to try to understand your thinking. So, are you implying that even though McAfee deleted/erased all those files, there might still be some Netsky infection causing the internet browser to malfunction?

there is that possibility. netsky transforms itself alot, which is why there is a specific program just for it.
I also included links to cwshredder, a small utility for removing CoolWebSearch (aka CoolWwwSearch, YouFindAll, White-Pages.ws and a dozen other names). and also to hijackthis, which is a program that shows general homepage hijackers and is a detector and remover.
with the amount of adware/spyware you had, it's a good chance there is still something there, causing your problems.
i would suggest making sure you keep your operating system updated, as well as your antivirus and spybot.
you should also try the firefox browser. have a look here:
http://www.spreadfirefox.com/

you could try this program:http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm to fix your lsp(winsock chain) most commonly messed up with adware removal

Okay, I sat down to proceed with the instructions you gave me and it didn't take long to realize I had an obstacle to overcome. I cannot access any of the websites because my browser won't allow me to go anywhere. Anytime I try to go to a website the THIS PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED page comes up. I have been getting to this website through my work computer. So, how do I proceed without being able to get to the web pages that you recommended?

I do appreciate your time. thanks!
