Installing downloads in Mandrake 9.1

This is basically impossible. Every time I try, I get a pop-up telling me:
No local host.
No such command.
No directary.
No such file.
So on and so on. It is very confusing.
Can anyone send me a guide, step by step, on how to install any download??
I went to the Linus Forums and all that stuff, but what they tell me to do does not work.
HELP, I WOULD APPRECIATE IT.
THANKS

What exactly are you downloading and trying to install? Are you using CLI or GUI interface in Mandrake?

To install programs or updates in the Mandrake Control Center, select Start, System, Configuration, Configure Your Computer, Software Management, Updates. After you select a mirror site, the program will have you select the types of updates you want: Security, bugfixes, normal. Once you have done that, choose the ones you want to install. The program will download the files and install them.

You can launch the control center from the command line as root, by typing mcc.

Hope this helps.
