Home networking Question

I have been trying to read up a bit on home networking & have a question.
When they are talking about a Network interface card that an ethernet cable plugs into, is that different than the ethernet card that my cable modem goes to? Right now I have a router & 2 computers sharing internet & would like to explore file sharing. Thanks, Mike

should be the same thing, as long as your cable modem uses a nic and not the usb.

If you already have 2 compters hooked into the router and are sharing internet, you're essentially networked already.

Just put the 2 machines in the same workgroup, set permissions, and you're good.
