DVD+R/+RW boot up problem

Hello - I recently installed a DVD+R/+RW drive in my HP Compaq DC5000MT desktop (WinXP Pro SP2). The drive is set as a slave to the CD-RW/DVD-Rom combo drive on the secondary IDE controller. Since I've installed it, its been opening and closing repeatedly when I restart the computer and it won't boot up at all. I have to press the start button several times and close the drive manually to get it to boot up. I've tried reseating the IDE cable and uninstalling and reinstalling the drive in Device Manager, but it hasn't helped. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Take the other CD drive out, uninstall its programs, and see if the new drive will work alone. It may be something is getting crossed up in the drivers for two devices that may be alike, in some programmer's work.

There is a virus that causes CD drives to open and close. You might run a virus scan while you are at it.
