Smile Restore Option Not Working

I have been trying to use the Restore feature for my computer (Presario 6000 Series). It will go through all the steps like it restoring the computer back to the date I selected, but after restarting, it tells it can't restore to that date and if I want to continue, select another date. I have done this 5 times and each time it rejects the date. Any suggestions?

There is no guarantee that a system restore will work. Your system has likely changed too much for Windows to complete a successful restore. In addition, the farther back you go, the less likely it is to work.

System restore only saves settings and some other pertinent info. - it does not create an "image" of your computer, as this would take up far too much hard drive space. It can fix your computer in the case that your registry becomes corrupted, a piece of hardware stops working correctly (maybe), or you make some change that causes undesirable consequences.

However, it cannot recover data that has been permanantly deleted, or is otherwise unrecoverable. In these instances, system restore will not work.

There are third party programs that are more robust than system restore, but they typically come at the cost of a pretty significant performance hit (i.e. your computer will run slower).
