No Network Connection

I am trying to connect a laptop running win95 to my PC network running win2000. All computers are connected through a router. All computers running win2000 do not have a problem. The laptop running win95 does. I checked device manager, no problem there. Network adaptor is enabled and functioning. But when I try to ping the router or this computer, it fails. For some reason, I can't get the laptop to get a network connection. You don't think I need to enable file print sharing on the laptop do you? Oh and I noticed on the network properties that the TCPIP protocol is not listed. Should it be there? Thanks...

Yes, I did add the TCPIP protocal, I had forgotten you need that to have a working network. When I get really stumped on something I will make a post here but just because I make a post does not mean I stop working on it. Well, it took me probably 30 minutes to figure the file sharing and the TCPIP thing out.
