logging on question

I just installed DSL and am wondering how i can check my system without opening my browser(internet explorer). I use to be able to do it with my old dial-up system, but i understand with DSL i am always "on line"when i turn on my computer.
Thanks

I believe that everytime i start my computer i automatically connect to the internet. I would like to just check my anti virus accounts, sytem health, some games, etc. without being on the internet on starting my computer. I normally shut my computer off when i'm not using it.

Turn off your DSL modem or disconnect your cable when you don't want to be connected.

if you have a software firewall other than the one built in xp, you can select to block all connections out.
