desktop processor in a notebook

I am in the market for a new notebook. I have noticed that alienware puts desktop processors in theirs. This obviously gives them an advantage in the gaming world. When you do that, are there any subsequential problems that are related. Such as running certain software programs or hardware incapatibilities?
