Ghost help

I have been trying to copy my C Drive to a different drive. I have tried the Copy to disk and also tried to restore using the image file.

Each time it appears to work fine but when I hook up the new drive to use it will boot and I get a windows logo but then it stops.

I am using windows XP. Do I need to do something with the XP Installation CD Rom?

Thanks for any help

Harlan

If I put the windows xp cd in I assume I use the recovery. I tried this but needed a password. I didn't use a password when I installed windows xp, but saw where I can add one now. Is this the password I need to use the Windows XP Recovery?

If you didnt ever create a password, than leave the field blank and it will continue on from there.

If you are trying to boot from this new drive, you will need to install the operating system on it and set it to master. Unless you ghost the new drive from the old, bootable drive, it seems unlikely that it will boot otherwise.

Yes, I was ghosting from the old to the new. I assumed that it would copy the OS OK and it would reboot but that didn't happen. The computer would start to boot and the windows logo comes on but then everything stops. So do you think if I use the windows XP Recovery that I can get it to work?
