Screen saver and wireless mouse

I have installed a new wireless mouse on my Dell desktop. Mouse is Microsoft. For whatever reason the sreen saver will not work. If I unplug the transmitter from the USB port, the screen saver works without a problem. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance

try running msconfig and removing the dvd player software from starting at boot.
Or remove the dvd player software alltogether.

Could be RF interference.

It sounds to me like the USB mouse support keeps the system busy enough for it never to think it's idle. One of my favorite techniques for waking my system up to clear a screen saver is to wiggle the mouse. If the wireless mouse support includes some sort of periodic signaling between the mouse and the USB adapter, that could prevent the screen saver from ever starting. Virtual mouse activity. Perhaps there is a setting you can change in the software setup for extending the equivalent of a polling interval. Check the Microsoft Knowledge Base to see if there is an article on the subject.

you should be able to play with windows media player.
If you uninstall it, you can always reinstall it.
Or, just use msconfig (start/run/[type msconfig]startup tab)
uncheck everything that relates to the dvd software so it isnt running at bootup.
see if this solves the problem.
