Angry [email protected]#$%^&*Norton

Gateway 7310S (6 months old) ... running XP Home.

Outlooks Express stopped working. Installed Incredimail and it worked for a few days. Then ... nothing! Deleted Norton and everything works fine.

Now I get the error message that my computer is at risk and to install a Firewall and Antivirus program(s). (I am using Spybot.)

Won't I get the same results with a different manufacturer?

If I must install, what is the best out there that will not cause problems?

Your experience and suggestions will be much appreciated.

if you dont want to be "alerted" you can turn that off. It is built into xp service pack2. Go to start/control panel/security center/....on the left side under resources, click "change the way security center alerts me". in the next popup, uncheck the firewall and antivirus. no more popup warnings.
get rid of incredimail.
do an online scan and then install an antivirus. there are many virii that target certain well known programs, like norton, causing them to shut down or fail to work properly. Also install a software firewall, to make sure there isn't any info going out that shouldn't be. For many good, free choices, follow the link in my sig.

Spybot is neither a firewall or anti-virus program, I'll also recommend AVG, seems to do a good job.
