thank you, but when i went through the steps as listed I could not find any of the files on the list in the folders to remove. I am sure it is still on the computer because my spyware software still detects it. Let me know if you have any suggestions on what the cause and solution of this might be.

you can do an online scan as well as download the free version. It's at the bottom of the page. It should fix you up.

If you have been able to remove the virus, here are some free anti-virus/spyware utilities to help stop any future infections.
Lavasoft Ad-Aware

Spybot Search And Destroyhttp://www.safer-networking.org/
Spyware Blaster

Microsoft Anti Spyware

AVG Anti-Virus (free for home use)

There are also plenty of free online virus / spyware scanners. Just do a google search for "free online virus scan."
If you want even more protection you can install a free firewall. I have used ZoneAlarm with good success. To setup a firewall can be tricky, so only try if you are willing to take some time to read the instructions, help files and to endure some connectivity issues until you set it up correctly.
I have been using all of the above on all of my computers and have not had a virus or spyware issue in quite awhile. Also run Windows Update regularly to make sure windows has the latest patches.
