Movie media players freezing up

I just bought and installed a new video card, GeForce 6200 OC AGP 256mb DDR. The previous card, was a GeForce 5900XTOC which it's fan started to die, hence the replacement. All my movie editing from home movies and watching movie previews as well as those cool and funny videos online all worked just fine. After I installed and tried to play a preview, or a music video, my whole system slows to a crawl, and if I jump into the Task Manager it shows the CPU pinged at 100%. I've updated the drivers on my video card, and even used the drivers that I used previous to the switch. This all happens in my windows media player, iTunes media player (only during videos), and my roxio media editor. I'm using Win2000 on an Intel P4, 2.4ghz, 523,760 RAM. Any ideas?

 

I would uninstall all the associated programs, remove the video card in system, hardware, device manager, then reboot the computer and start the process over.

 

You've sanitized it already for spyware, adware, viruses? The "spare" computer that I use for troubleshooting and to look up addresses when the family computer is in use picked up Spy Falcon and I had a problem with a BIG slowdown on EVERYTHING. [Side note: If I ever see the lowlifes that came up with that cr@p in a crosswalk, I'm going to have a new hood ornament].
