Windows Update

Windows XP SP1:
Good Afternoon. I have aquired a computor with Windows XP SP1. The prev. owner did little or none windows updates. I ran the windows update and it found that there were 50+ updates. I have yet to download any yet, pending the answer to this question. Should I do all 50 updates, or will the most recent cover the remaining. I am on dial up, and the est. time to download is 9 hrs. As always, thank you in advance.

First get your hands on the SP2; it will resolve quite a few of the updates. It's downloadable (several hours on dialup), but the best way is to request the CD from Microsoft on their website. Also, some of those updates must be downloaded separately from the others.

I ordered the CD for SP2, since I'm on dial up as well. Cost me about $3.50 in shipping.

Once you get caught up set your computer to automatically get the updates. I started with xp sp1 and all the updates [including sp2] have been done in the back ground with no noticable problems while using dial up.
