sound stuttering
I have a compacq presario 700z. when I try to play a sound file I get stutters. A brief history: I have had the laptop for two years. 900MHZ, 128MB mem. (I know I need more, but it is just a spare mach, so I'll suffer) 9Gb HD. winxp/sp2. Everything was fine till I got a virus about a year ago. I've wiped the HD, and reinstalled xp/sp2, and it sux that the sound driver isn't included. So...I dl'd driver, and the stutters started. I've reinstalled everything again..still same prob. Can Anyone help me...I pulling my hair out. Oh! also I see on HP drive site the dvd sometimes will switch something in the registry, so I also dl'd the fix for that, but that didn't help either.. Ain't gotta clue!

Your resources are right up to where it should malfunction. To keep this guy running is a very good balancing test. you are probably running out of memory and unless you have a registers cleaner it just complains that is all.
