16 Bit Color
Hello,
My monitor is now displaying 800 X 600 pixels, true color (32 bit) at 56 HZ. (I live in the U.S.)
I have windows XP and I get a message when I load the desktop that says; windows is best at 16 bit. When I change the display from the control panel back to 800 X 600 pixels, high color (16 bit) at 60 Hz, where I think it should be, then most of the time I am on line, it stays at the setting. But everytime I shut down and restart the computer, it reverts back to true color (32 bit) at 56 Hz. How do I fix this?
As best as I remember, I installed a sound card a few years ago and is it possible that it is a combination sound and video card that went bad?

Unless you just really like basic colors, there's no reason to not use 32 bit color.

I tried a higher refresh rate at 32 bit at 75 Hz and at 60 Hz and it still reverts back to 56 Hz when I restart the computer. Is the frequency the problem here?
Windows XP only has three choices for color; starting with 8 bit, 16 bit and 32 bit and choice of either high color or true color.
When the desktop icons are loaded, the color appears ok, but as soon as the task bar is starting to load, the icons on the desktop appear fogged over a bit. Then I checked my settings again, they are not at what I picked.
Is there a driver for the display? Could it be corrupted or have a file missing?

Go to pc world download page and get the rapid resolution for free. then you can set up to 1028 x1024 8,16,32 bits and 56 to 72 refresh rate and it will stay there. Sometimes if you run an old program set for 8 bits or lower refresh rates it will modefy for you so you can run the program at those rates. check and see.
