Floppy drive acting funny
Gateway, Windows XP...............If I use my floppy and then remove the disk, every now and then, as I'm using my computer, I hear the floppy turn on and then off with no disk in it. This will continue until I restart my computer. What's happening................Thanks

You probably left a window or a program open that is referencing the drive. The window or program is attempting to access the drive and the operating system is determining if a disk is present.
Make certain that you close whatever program was accessing the drive completely.

I don't see anything open that is referencing the drive. As a matter of fact, as I went to look at your response, the floppy came on and off for a few seconds.

Try disabling your virus software when it happens. Of course - if it aint broke, don't fix it.

I've seen that with Dell's running win2k, years ago, and I can't remember if we tracked it down or not. It could have been "my computer"/explorer/ie trying to refresh something it thought it should know, or it could have been Word or Word Perfect doing the same thing. I do remember we went through the regular routine of looking for malicious software, though.
I would check your AV, and look for spyware/malware of course. If it's not that, I would just chalk it up to one of those "weird windows things".
