Win 98 USB Data Stick Driver

Anyone know where I could locate a Windows 98 driver for a GXT Mobile Disk data stick? I Googled all morning but couldn't find anything but commercial ads.

I know it was purchased at Future Shop, is 1 GB and USB 2.0.

Is there such a thing as a generic driver for this?

Can you find the USB VID and PID?

If you can find that you can do a web search for that chipset, and you can find the drivers likely from the chip manufacturer's site.

What are the VI & PID? Where would I look to find them?

No luck. What I did was plug the data stick into another machine with Win XP Pro on it & viewed the Device Manager information. That told me this:

USB\VID_126F&PID_0161\7B15DD406EF516

Many searches later ... no results. Is the manufacturer's name in that code somewhere?

Future shop web site still list GXT data drives. Some of them don't list W98 as a spec.

I would try contacting Future shop.

As I remember Windows 98 does not support USB anyway. I think 98SE does.

98 (98SE anyways) supports USB quite a bit, but you need to install drivers for everything.

See http://www.twinmos.com/flash_download.htm
for possible drivers to your product.

I skipped over 98 and 2000 for XP, so don't know for sure what version of 98 supported what.

Thank you very much classics That site was EXACTLY what I needed. Downloaded/installed the drivers & everything worked great!

I've been trying to set up email for my 80 year old mother on this ThinkPad but there is no CD rom or any other way to transfer programs to the machine -- until now!

Thanks again

Win98SE driver for GXT flash drive

I am also looking for the driver to use with Win98SE. Does anyone know who the manufacturer is for the GXT data drive? It's a data key purchased at futureshop.

Please advise.

Just curious Editor, how is your mother going to get email if she can't connect the computer to anything?

What gave you the idea 'she can't connect the computer to anything'? Back in September, when I asked the original question, all that was available for loading programs, drivers, etc. was the onboard 3.5" floppy. I got the USB drive working (thanks to all here who answered & had her up & running within a week.

more GXT problems

i bought two today from Future Shop.
My laptop on Windows XP recogised it automatically and I copied to it no problem.
The bad news is I stuck it in my desk top also on Windows XP and it has not recognised it at all! Go figure.
If I have a success i will post it.
