boot up issue!!!

I was given a computer that i thought i could use for my son to play games on but as it seems i can't even get the computer to boot up.... i get a message saying verifying DMI pool data update success ... disk boot failure insert system disk and press enter ... not sure what this means if anyone can tell me if this is serious or something i might be able to correct myself ...

Thanks Gord

Disk boot failure means there is no boot disk. This means that the hard drive is not connected properly or that the hard drive does not contain an operating system.

You need to either connect the hard drive or put an operating system on it.

do you have a win98 CD or bootup disk?

make one from http://www.bootdisk.com/ for windows 98. it fits on a floppy. boot computer with floppy in system and reformat the hard drive. than load the operating system from 98/2000/xp whatever you want.
post current computer specs to help further

do you how to get in bios?

if so change the setting to boot from hard drive.

the computer may be looking at something else for operating system other than hard drive hence changing hard drive does not make a difference.

It's possible the power supply is bad.. Check for 12 and 5 volts on the hard drive plug..
Black-yellow = 12
Black-red = 5
