HP Printer on Home Network

This post is just for the benefit of others that may be having similar problems.......

Printer: HP PSC2410 on WIN/XP Home Network. Probably applicable to other printers as well.

Problem: After upgrading driver on host machine, the other machines can't see the printer.

Resolution: Turn off Windows Firewall, and check to make sure McAfee / Norton Firewall is also turned off. Once all firewalls are turned off, execute "add printer" wizard on all other machines in the network except the host (hopefully the host has the printer already on USB or whatever).

Once other machines are able to see printer, and you have printed a test page, you can turn the firewall back on. Make sure you only turn ONE firewall on (either windows or McAfee etc). Having both firewalls on can cause other problems.

it is much simpler to add a network printer than keep it on host machine

it uses IP address for printing and the host machine does not need to stay up or connected to other computers.

ask if want to know how?
