LCD Monitor & Sharing?

I have a Viewsonic VA712B LCD monitor with both DVI and VGA ports.

What would happen if I were to connect one computer to the DVI port and another computer to the VGA port at the same time?

The LCD manual does not say whether the monitor would be able to "switch" between the two inputs.

Thanks.

I suspect that when a signal is applied to both ports that the VGA port would win.

But why would you try this? Buy a KVM switch and do this properly.

I wouldn't want to take the chance of burning something up.. Whether it be the monitor, or video card..

I don't see why it wouldn't work. You should simply need to switch which port the monitor is using from your monitor controls.

It should work, because

On the LCD monitor I have you have to go into the LCD monitors Menu to choose which input to use. Don't know if that's the same for all LCD's

As long as the monitor has an easy method for switching inputs, it'll work.

While this lets you see the other monitor, which is fine if you just need to see if it's running, a KVM switch would give you actual access to the machine.
