windows xp Desktop question

Running Win XP Professional. Not sure what I have done, but on bottom right hand side of my desktop it says the following:

Windows XP Professional
Build 2600.xpsp.050301-1521 (Service Pack 2)

this just started showing up yesterday. Everything else appears to work OK but would rather not have this on my desktop.

Thanks,

Harlan

Cool. I've now enabled this feature and like it very much!

I can't guess how you got it inadvertently, Harlan. It's toggled on/off with the registry, and only supposed to default on for beta versions of Windows. Maybe update changed it, or maybe you're looking at a different user's desktop.

Here's how to disable this feature:

1) Download and install the Microsoft PowerToy "Tweak UI" at

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

2) In TweakUI's "General" section, scroll to the last setting "Show Windows version on desktop", uncheck it. Reboot. This is a per-user setting.

If you want to do it manually here is the link to edit the registry.

I used the Tweak UI and that took care of it. Thanks a lot.
