It all depends on how slow the system is.

If after defragging, virus scanning, and spybot scanning, your machine is still running slow, you can reformat.

You do not have to though.

I typically reformat twice a year.

This is one of those hot topics that comes up occasionally with widely varying opinions. Some people [at least one major poster here] claim reformatting annually, or at least fairly often, is esssential to proper operation. Others NEVER reformat [like me; the only time I format is when my hard drive craps and gets replaced]. Still others take the middle ground. I don't know that there is a definitive answer except to say if you're doing it to try to fix a perceived problem, okay; just doing it as periodic/preventive maintenance is probably not necessary.

Reformatting is a major pain and I only do it as a last resort.

I can have my computer completely reformated faster then it takes to do a full virus scan. I've must have done a thousand reformats (ixing other people's computers), so it's alot fast for me.

Reformatting is no big deal, it's reloading your OS and all your software back on that's the big time suck.....
Personally I just defrag on a regular basis, reformat only when I absolutley must.........

It takes me at least 1/2 hr. to format, then another hour or two to put back all the programs and drivers and data.
