Format issues

Hello,

I am attempting to re-format my computer in order to re-install Windows XP on a Dell Dimension 4100 computer. My computer is not allowing me to format C: , any ideas on how I may format my drive in order to load my operating system?

Thanks,

Joey

Windows won't let you format the C drive because it is using files from that drive.

Shut down the machine and reboot with the XP installation disc in the CD or DVD drive. If it boots from the CD you'll see the XP setup screen. There is an option to format the drive during setup.

If it doesn't boot from the CD, you'll have to change your BIOS settings' "Boot" section to look for the CD drive before it looks for the C drive. Enter BIOS by pressing a key during the first Dell screen. (The display tells you which key to press.)

Don't forget to load the Dell drivers after you've reloaded XP.
