Faxing?
I don't have a fax machine. Can I send a fax from my PC on a cable modem?
Also, the document I need to send is an invoice (Excel spreadsheet). I don't want to send it in editable (spreadsheet) form. How do I convert it to something that is only readable?

Why not send it as an attachment in a email if it's just a excel spreadsheet?
If it has handwriting on it, you need to scan it in the computer, then use a simple fax program to fax it.
It will not be editable if you send it via fax.
If it has no handwriting, you can save the file as "read only" or password protected, via email attachment.

No, you cannot send a fax via your cable modem.
What you can do is to find a commercial site (and there are several of them) that will allow you fax things. They usually add their own advertising to the fax (and the unscrupulous ones sell the fax number), but nothing is free. These sites have you install software on your computer that looks like a printer to your software.
